Mastermix or GY layer?
GY Layer Pellets, Crumbles and Mash are the premium quality feeds for today's West Australian high output laying birds. Consisting of the highest quality grains, high levels of minerals, vitamins and trace elements, this feed is a COMPLETE FEED. NO OTHER ADDITIVES ARE REQUIRED.
Mastermix Layer Pellets are an alternative, designed to be fed to layers in a situation where they have access to other feed such as grass, insects and household food scraps. This feed being used by the more traditional backyard poultry laying bird keeper. This product also has high levels of vitamins, minerals and trace minerals. Mastermix is designed for the West Australian environment.
Should I use pellets, crumbles or mash for my layers?
This depends on personal preference, but in most situations pellets are recommended for mature birds. Pellets have less wastage than crumbles or mash and birds can eat their fill more quickly.
Crumbles are necessary for juvenile birds as they have difficulty swallowing pellets. Crumbles being smaller accomodate the younger juvenile chicks.
Good quality feed and clean, fresh water should be available at all times without restriction.
Hygiene for housing poultry
It is a must that good quality cool clean water is always available and offered in a container or drinker suitable to the age and size of the birds.
Pens should be kept dry, clean and hygienic to minimise disease and reduce fly problems. A regular programme of waste removal should be instigated, to assist in disease and fly control issues. It is recommended that regular usage of a poultry lice control powder or dust should be used to remove lice parasites. Removal of poultry parasites is important for health, wellbeing of poultry and of there egg production.
Coccidiosis is the most prevalent disease in household poultry. Incidences of Coccidiosis can be increased if wet and dirty litter builds up in the enclosure. Removal of this material is important. GP Poultry Starter Crumbles contain a coccidiostat to reduce the risk of coccidiosis.
