Nutritionally balanced for better performance and health.
Home mixed poultry rations, such as whole wheat, are significantly inferior to scientifically proven production feeds.
A balanced feed is essential for regular egg production and the general health and well being of the bird. Wesfeeds Poultry feeds are nutritionally balanced to meet the health, growth and production needs of poultry and are designed to produce eggs with strong shells and golden yolks.
Important nutritional requirements for poultry are energy, protein, vitamins and minerals.
Energy
Energy in the feed is necessary to provide for growth of body tissue, production of eggs, physical activity and maintenance of normal body temperature. Wesfeeds poultry feeds are produced for high digestibility and energy.
Protein
Protein consists of amino acids and is necessary to build muscle, connective tissue and eggs. Twelve of these essential amino acids are essential nutrients for poultry as they are unable to be synthesised by the bird. Wesfeeds use the highest quality protein sources and additional amino acids to meet the specific needs of your poultry.
Vitamins
Vitamins are included at peak levels in Wesfeeds poultry rations, as they are essential to promote growth, reproduction and good health. Vitamins also assist to manage stress and disease levels, which may challenge poultry in the Western Australian environment.
Minerals
Minerals such as calcium are necessary for good bone structure and strong eggshell quality. Wesfeeds poultry feeds contain additional minerals, including calcium for thick strong egg shells.
Wesfeeds have a wide range of feeds designed to meet the specific requirements at every stage of life of your poultry in the Western Australian environment. Please refer to the table below to choose the Wesfeeds feed most suited to your poultry.
Mastermix or GY layer?
GY Layer Pellets, Crumbles and Mash are the premium high quality Western Australian poultry feed that contains high energy, protein, mineral and vitamin levels to allow them to be fed as the sole feed for layers.
Mastermix Layer Pellets are an alternative, designed to be fed to layers in a situation where they have access to other household feed such as grass, insects and household food scraps.
Should I use pellets, crumbles or mash for my layers?
This depends on personal preference, but in most situations pellets are recommended for mature birds. Pellets have less wastage than crumbles or mash and birds can eat their fill more quickly and efficiently.
Crumbles are necessary for juvenile birds as they have difficulty swallowing pellets. The smaller the size of the ration particles make feeding easier for such birds.
Good quality feed and clean, fresh water should be available at all times without restriction.
Hygiene for housing poultry
It is important that good quality cool water is always available.
Pens should be kept dry, clean and hygienic to minimise disease and reduce fly problems.
Coccidiosis is the most prevalent disease in household poultry on litter and incidence can be increased by wet conditions. GP Poultry Starter Crumbles contain a coccidiostat to reduce the risk of coccidiosis.
